Exploring Paper as a Textile Medium
The module aimed at developing an artistic approach towards textiles. The idea was to explore a range of materials and then transforming them into three dimensional forms through deconstruction and off-loom techniques.

Inspiration
Nature has always played a vital role in our creative expression. There are so many things around us which inspires us every moment. I captured some captivating images of branches, roots, leaves and logs.

One thing I found common in all the four images was "layers". Also the images look dense yet delicate. Layers with intricacy and delicacy gave me lot of scope to work with.
Paper as a textile medium
As I wanted my piece to be layered, dense and delicate so I decided to take paper as a medium as it is a very versatile to work with.
I took layers of different papers like crepe, handmade sheets, butter paper and newspaper and try giving them interesting texture by black smoke from candle flame. All the layers were stitched together with a fabric underneath.
After stitching I started cutting the papers in a way to highlight the layers at every stage.

This process gave me a sheet of sturdy material to work with and use it as a textile medium . I decided to make a Jacket' keeping in mind all the characteristics of the material.
Final Process
- Sheet was cut into the shape of the jacket .
-I used knotting in the sideways to attach the front and back of the jacket .
-Velcro was used to attach the shoulders so that the jacket is easy removable without
destroying the paper fabric
