Having a natural inclination towards handicrafts and fondness for details I started out as a Textile Designer from Srishti Institute of Art , Design and Technology . During this time, I had an opportunity to work with different craft communities. From working with Kotpad Weavers community in Odisha to bamboo organization in Wayanad it gave me deep insight into the actuality of their struggles and triumphs. I realized that, the traditional practices of handcrafting are losing importance and we are facing potentially lost skills and loss of cultural identity.

It also opened my eyes to the different business models that some of these communities use, as well as the opportunities and loopholes that exist within them. This led me to think about how I can combine design and entrepreneurship to bring about a positive change in these craft communities. This drove me to pursue Naropa Fellowship, a Post-Graduate Programme in Entrepreneurial Leadership in Ladakh. The aim was to foster an ecosystem of Entrepreneurship while preserving the cultural heritage of Ladakh and the Himalayan region.

During this tenure I came up with a venture called Lugu Ladakh which aimed at creating sustainable livelihood for the carpet weavers of Ladakh by adding value to their products through business strategies and design intervention.

Working on my own venture gave a deeper understanding of the entire business and design ecosystem. Through this experience, I came to know the benefits of incorporating technology into business strategies for efficiency.

To dive into it I started working as an Ecommerce merchandiser for a marketplace that deals with various artists and designers. From analyzing latest design trends to curating appropriate products to implementing digital marketing strategies this role has helped me to understand the right market for handcrafted products and how to make it best available to the target audience.

Building on this experience, I took on the role of Business Development Manager at Design Craft by Somaiya Agencies, a multi-artisan designers platform that showcases the work of Somaiya Kala Vidya graduates where I’ve been able to apply and strengthen all my skills across design, business, and technology. Here, I lead the development of holistic business strategies, manages retail operations, strengthen artisan designer partnerships, and drive collaborations with stakeholders. One of the key projects I led was Design Craft’s showcase at Lakmé Fashion Week, managing everything from artisan collaboration and design development to production, styling coordination, documentation, and timely execution. This role has strengthened my leadership, strategic planning, and stakeholder management skills, while deepening my expertise in driving growth for artisan-led brands through integrated business development."

To sum it all up I think of myself as someone who likes to work around intersection of Design , Entrepreneurship and Technology while impacting grassroots communities and organizations by associating with them.
