Ply split braiding

Ply-split braiding is a technique for making textiles by parting the plies of one cotton cord and drawing a second cord through the space created between the plies of the first. This less known technique is/was used in the making of camel belts in the desert regions of Rajasthan and is on the verge of extinction. Ply-split braiding is an extremely versatile textile technique and after having a basic understanding and practice the possibilities of making 3D structures are endless.

I explored the technique by creating a few belts , key chains and 3d structures
