Inspired textile from imagination into making

This was a client based project which aimed at creating an international ambiance through textiles for a new business hotel in Bangalore. A master artist inspires each of the business-class rooms in the hotel. The project emphasized on creating textiles taking inspiration from the works of a master artist.

Inspiration

I chose “Occasions of Light” painting by Jehangir Sabavala as my inspiration. Jehangir Sabavala a well-known Indian artist who creates almost cubic wedges out of paint which he puts together to form vast tranquil scenes. His paintings are blue dominant. The artist’s work is said to have hypnotic expression. Also, his paintings evoke a feeling of contemplation, serenity and stillness.

My purpose was to generate the same feeling of tranquility and stillness through woven fabric which can be used for an interior decor of the hotel. I wove a cushion cover which has an essence of the color transitions and textures of the chosen painting.
